Weather Apps vs. Weatherman

We are living in a world of technology, and you already know that, but is there or will there be a point when technology overcomes man or woman?

Think about it.

The answer isn’t easy, but sometimes people (or a meteorologist) is just better at giving a weather forecast rather than a mobile app.

Now, everyone who has a smartphone probably already has a weather app downloaded, but does it provide weather alerts? That’s probably the only thing a weather app is good for. These are especially important because if you set it up properly you can get an alert in the middle of the night just in case severe weather strikes.

Severe weather in the middle of the night is especially dangerous because you can’t see a tornado coming or be on alert when it is headed your way.

A meteorologist can’t necessarily alert you in the middle of the night.

What a meteorologist can do is provide you a detailed and thorough forecast that will tell you the full weather story.

They personalize it.

We tell you how the upcoming weather will make an impact in your life. and give you a weather forecast that will have our meteorological intuition.

And a weather app is just designed to spit out the weather algorithm that is pin-pointed for your exact location. But the truth is, there are a quite a few weather models that are producing weather forecasts and each one has a different outcome… just like different weather apps.

What does this mean to you??

With all of the different weather apps and weather models, each app produces something different. For example, if you download two different apps they have most likely have two different temperatures for the next several days.

But now how do you decipher what the high temperature will be? They both could be right and they both could be wrong and there’s no one there to explain to you why this may be the case.

If you have a meteorologist nearby, they could tell you what they think, they could explain the difference between apps, and the numbers. A meteorologist can explain the science behind a forecast.

Now, a forecast isn’t perfect, but there is a rhyme and a reason behind each individual forecast a meteorologist makes… something an app does not.

Like already stated, an app just simply spits out weather model output it does not put in the personal information on how a forecast can impact your daily life.

Having said all of this, it is best to have access to both because a meteorologist will tell you how it is and will let you know how this can impact your life and an app provides the weather alerts while you are asleep or occupied by something else. This can give your alerts just in case there is an immediate weather emergency.
